Occasionally our users are finding a disconnect between the strings in a project and those reported as available in Civil Site Design.

This issue arises when the content RoadList.txt fails to synchronise with the RoadTypeList.RType file.

RoadTypeList.RType lists the string names and types in the project in the following format:

OTHER|STRING NAME X|
KERB|Kerb One|
GRADING|Grading name|
ROAD|Main Road|

RoadList.txt lists only the string names in the following format:

STRING NAME X

Kerb One
Grading name
Main Road

You will see that the file RoadList.txt has the vertical bars and string type removed otherwise the content will be the same and only have the string names listed

ENSURE YOU HAVE A COPY OR BACKUP OF YOUR PROJECT (DWG AND DATA FOLDER) PRIOR TO ATTEMPTING THE FOLLOWING.

To resolve this issue:

NOTE: RoadTypeList.RType  does not get modified at all in the process below, if the file is modified, ensure you DO NOT SAVE any changes. The only file to be modified and saved is RoadList.txt

1. go to the General tab on the ribbon

2. click Stop Software (we want to write any open files to the data folder)

3. click Explore Data

4. place a check in Data (this will take you to the location of your extracted packed data)

5. click OK

windows file explorer will open in the correct folder and both RoadTypeList.RType and RoadList.txt are to be found in this location

open both RoadTypeList.RType and RoadList.txt in Notepad or a similar ASCII editor

copy the content of RoadTypeList.RType into RoadList.txt replacing all content

One each line of RoadList.txt remove the content up to and including the first vertical bar, then delete the vertical bar at the end of the line, leaving only the string name on the line.

Save RoadList.txt when the modifications are complete.

return to your CAD software,

save your drawing and ensure that you update the packed data (if using pack mode) and close your project file (dwg)

reopen the drawing and your roads/gradings/etc will be available.

check that the string type is set correctly (rib(ribbon > Roads > Edit > click Switch Roads and Profiles)

please also check on the variations to ensure any that are relying on alignments or strings are available.
