When viewing a Pipe Network design in the Pipes VGE, if the HGL is seemingly high and there is no or little flow being assigned, you may have used a Pit Family or Type that has no Inflow assigned to it somewhere upstream of the Pipe section you are viewing.
To solve this, go to the Pipes tab > Active Network button > CSD Piping Default Settings form > Drainage tab > Pit Tables sub-tab and select the Pit Family and Pit Type that you are using. If this has no entries or values of zero used in the Gutter Flow vs Pit Inflow table then none of the runoff acquired by the Catchment assigned to the Pit will contribute to the Pipe Network Flow and will therefore Bypass to the next downstream (or specified) inlet. Add values for the Gutter Flow and Pit Inflow and they will be graphed in the adjacent panel.
Sample Pit Families and Pit Types are available with data provided. Pit Families with steeper cross falls denoted with the %XF value will have larger Inflow values. Similarly, if a Pit is attached to a String, the Longitudinal Grade of that string can automatically assign a different Pit Type which can be the same Pit with different Inflows assigned to allow for more bypass on a steeper road.
Different Pit Family and Type data is available for different regional installs of Civil Site Design, such as the Australian install with the Queensland drainage option.
